About Sharks Squads
|
REEF SHARKS
This group contains a mixture of 2 groups of swimmers. The first group being those recently promoted from swimming lessons (i.e. novice swimmer with little or no experience at competitive swimming). These swimmers will be mainly instructed in stroke development, turns starts etc. with a very small amount of stamina work. All these swimmers will usually occupy the first 2 training lanes and will usually work with Eddy, Donna or Margaret. It will also contain all the swimmers on the verge of moving up into the next Squad that also requires further stroke development but will do more stamina work. These swimmers will occupy lanes 3 & 4 and will usually work with Kevin. When ready these swimmers will then either move into the competitive Swim Squad or Tiger Squad. These squad sessions will last 45 minutes and two training sessions are available. REEF Sharks will only accommodate swimmers until they are 12 then they must move onto another Squad.
TIGER SHARKS
This Squad also contains two main groups of swimmers. The first group will be the developing competitive swimmer with aspirations of joining the main Competitive Swim Squad or the older swimmer that still wishes to swim competitively but is not always selected to swim for Sharks in League Galas. These swimmers will be actively encouraged to attend B Grade Open Meets or other suitable swimming galas and regularly compete for Sharks. These swimmers will also be utilized as first reserves in competitive League Galas and therefore have a very important role in South Axholme Sharks Swimming Club. The second group of swimmers in this Squad will contain the swimmers who just wishes to swim for fitness purposes without any great pressure placed on them to compete in galas. However every swimmer in the TIGER SHARKS squad will be selected to swim in the occasional gala and it is hoped that they will represent the club when required doing so. This is just one small requirement that the club asks in return for training the swimmer. This Squad will cater for Swimmers from 11 or 12 upwards depending upon ability. The training session will last 60 minutes (1 hour) and 3 training sessions are available. Any swimmer doing exceptionally well will of course be promoted to the main squad.
KILLER SHARKS
KILLER SHARKS will be the main competitive swim squad at Sharks. The swimmers in this Squad will form the foundation of the team at most competitive league galas. It is expected that swimmers in this Squad will be eager to represent the club at League Galas and also compete in some open meets throughout the year. Members in this Squad will be required to train at Sharks a minimum of at least 2 times per week (minimum once a week for DARTES swimmers but preferably 2) This squad should firmly focus on achieving some qualification times for the YASA Championships. Killer Shark members can train 4 times per week. Additional training is also available with Doncaster D.A.R.T.E.S. Killer Shark members will be expected to swim in 60% of league galas over 6 months and compete in some Open Meets when they can. Any swimmer who falls below these minimum requirements may be required to change squads. The head coach will make a constant assessment of the swimmers attitude to training and gala attendance. Swimmer may be moved squads at the coach’s discretion. Everyone will be expected to be on poolside 5 minutes before the session starts. No late arrivals!.
MASTERS SQUAD
| Finally we have the Masters Squad which is for the more mature swimmer over 21 years of age, wishing to swim competitively or just for fitness. Masters train on a Friday but some other nights may be available.
