Matters Arising

Sandra was unsure if the DMASA fees had been paid yet, Tim would find out at the next DMASA meeting and advise.

We have received a reply to our letter from Gainsborough Leisure Centre regarding the health and safety issues raised at galas. They confirmed that we are covered under their own Public Liability Insurance in the event of an accident claim. The other issues raised would be addressed and hopefully rectified during the refurbishment of the Pool i.e. lighting, tiles, lane ropes etc.

Kev advised that he had been on the Child Protection Workshop and it was confirmed that all swimming Clubs are required to have a Child Protection Officer. Jim apologised for not attending the course, although if he is to be become our Child Protection Officer, as discussed at a previous meeting, then he should go on the course.

After the recent gala at Deepings and the ‘worst bus journey of my life’, Simon wrote a letter of complaint to the bus company. We received a letter of apology from them re the behaviour of the bus driver and were advised that the driver was now off work with stress.

With regard to Trenton Dolphins request for us to contribute towards some new lane ropes to be used at galas held at Gainsborough Pool, Bev wrote to Debbie Scarf to advise that we would be willing to make a quarter contribution towards the total cost, this should be circa. £350.

Kev advised that he had approached some of the Sharks swimmers and parents to encourage them to give the DARTES entry squad a go, to see if they were interested in training at DARTES.

We have received a thank you from Mary Lambert for the flowers that we sent to her recently. Margaret Gray to be reimbursed with the cost, receipt to Sandra.

Julie has enquired further regarding the ASA Competitive Start Award. She has been in touch with Dawn Clark from DMASA, who suggested that in order to cover the Club if any swimmer does have an accident when diving in, particularly at the shallow end, then all swimmers should go through the ‘test’ and there should be a written log of the swimmers who have completed the award. Kev suggested that he might be able to take a session to assess the swimmers in this respect. We therefore need a notice on the board to advise swimmers when this session is to take place, the exclusions will be, swimmers who have passed the course already and have a certificate, these swimmers should bring their certificates to the Pool so that a formal list can be started.

Sandra confirmed that she had ordered 15 of the T.bag T-shirts as she has had some orders for these; the minimum order was 15.

Correspondence

Letter received from Gillian Snowden (CADS) reminding all Clubs of the safety guidelines for visiting teams and the warm-up times etc for the gala to be held on the 24th of June at Scartho Pool. They also require 2 timekeepers and a judge from us for this gala.

We received an email from Peter Gray requesting we accept his resignation as the Captain of the Senior Boys, as he will be going to University in September. Sandra to write to him to accept his resignation and to thank him for his time and effort

Email received re the last Barnsley Minor meeting minutes this was given to Kev.

Various other letters and correspondence re swimming events, swimwear, Aquaforce volunteers and Peter Gray’s CRB disclosure form re his suitability.

We have received an email from Rebecca Milnes asking us if she can run some training courses during the summer holidays for the swimmers at Epworth Pool. These sessions will consist of pool time and land training and all swimmers including the masters are invited. There will be a cost involved, although Rob has agreed to hire the pool out for as little as possible. She plans to run three sessions, two to cover all four strokes and a starts and turns session.  The Committee agreed that this was a good idea and Becky will put a notice on the board with the dates and details of each session.

David Gray received a letter from the ASA regarding course fees. It appears that we can claim back the cost of some of the courses including timekeepers, judges and coaches courses, if we are looking at becoming a Swim 21 Club.

Any Other Business

John Cocks arrived at the meeting to enquire whether the Club would be interested in taking part in the Epworth Fire Festival to be held on the 4th of November 2006, which he is organising. This is a fund raising event and will involve us by the possible selling of tickets and organising car parking. The event will encompass a parade through Epworth, fire dancers, story tellers, performances and music as well as a firework display. The Committee have agreed to help and John will give us more details as soon as he can. It was also noted that there is a gala on the same day at Knottingley, which may reduce numbers.

Kev received an email re all group 1 & 2 Dartes swimmers, advising that they should not swim any Club galas from September to November 2006. Kev to get more details re this.
