Matters Arising
With regard to the DMASA fees, it was unsure whether our payment had been received by the DMASA – Jim Cook to chase. Some more swimmers have passed the Competitive Start Award however, the Masters still have to be assessed and it was suggested that this should be done one Friday evening as part of their training session. The
Open Meet Sub-Committee meeting, which was to have taken place on the 18th of July 2006, did not go forward and therefore needs to be rearranged. As Jim Cook was the only member to turn up (well done Jim), he has volunteered to set the date for the ‘rearranged’ meeting and circulate an Agenda to the relevant members. N.B. Sub Committee members are, so far, Sandra Temperton, Kev Dunne, Simon Latham, Jim Cook, Cris Lewis, Julie Hirst and David Gray.
Swim 21
David advised the committee on the progress that has been made for the Swim 21 Charter. The Swim 21 Charter Mark, gives swimming Clubs a quality check by pulling together best ideas and good practices from Clubs all over the country. By achieving this Award we, as a Club, will benefit from funding for ASA run courses i.e. 75% of the cost of these courses will be paid by the them, the ASA will also back our insurance, in addition to other benefits as we progress through the Charter Mark process.
It has been suggested that eventually in 5-6 years time, all Swimming Clubs will need to have Swim 21 status before they can join the ASA.
Our initial submission form has been sent, as it had to be submitted by the deadline of the 1st of October 2006 and this will hopefully get us the first stage status.
However, we still need to address various issues and points, which are:
Thank you to Peter for all his efforts and time in putting this together. To show our appreciation it was agreed that he could train with Sharks, when he is home from University, for free.
Insurance for swimming teachers, coaches and poolside helpers needs to be addressed.
As there is a lot that needs to be addressed in relation to Swim 21, it was agreed that each part should be reviewed in more detail over the next few meetings. It was agreed that the Constitution should be discussed further at the next meeting.
Correspondence
Jim Cook (Child Protection Officer) received a letter from the ASA, giving a list of the people involved with the Club, who are already on the ASAs CRB list, as being either CRB checked or CRB self-checked. We need to up date this list to incorporate all officials, poolside helpers, lane coaches etc. Jim is to make a new list and arrange for new forms, where necessary, to be completed by the relevant people and send this to the ASA.
We have now seen a copy of the letter from the Management at Gainsborough Pool confirming that they have Public Liability Insurance, which covers the Club when we hold Galas there.
A copy of the new ASA rulebook has been received.
An agenda for a coaches meeting to be held by the North East Region of the ASA was received, which will be given to Kev.
Sandra received a reply from Stephanie Bird, a girl some people have met previously at the Lowestoft Meets. She took part in the Swimming Disability Nationals and thanked us for our support. The organisers of the Lowestoft Meet are looking forward to seeing us next year, as this years Meet was cancelled.
Coaches Report
No report, as Kev not present, to be picked up at the next meeting.
Forthcoming Galas
Lincs Squadron Gala on the 30th of September, Kev has entered two girls teams, the under 14s and an Open team.
Sunday the 1st of October sees the next round of the Barnsley Minors to be held at Chapeltown, 2pm warm-up.
The 8th and the 21st of October are the Doncaster Mets Galas.
The 14th and 15th of October are the Yorkshires.
And lastly, the 4th of November is the Falcons Gala.
Any Other Business
Jim advised that Dorothy Squires wanted the Committee to know that on the 22nd of September last, the ‘starting blocks’ were not fastened down properly and there could have been an accident. Dorothy has already advised Rob re this.
It has come to the attention of the Committee that there was a theft at the Pool about 2 weeks ago. Charlotte Squires had left some jewellery out, which was not locked in a locker whilst she was swimming, this subsequently went missing. The incident was reported to Rob, who we believe, advised her and her mum that the Pool held no responsibility for such items left unattended and all belongings should always be locked up. The Committee felt that all Club members should be reminded of this and a notice should be placed on our board in the entrance area. N.B. The item of jewellery has now turned up, thank goodness.
The Committee agreed that we should look at a possible date for our AGM and the 6th of December 2006 was suggested. The date for the AGM must be confirmed at the next meeting.
Date of Next Meeting
Wednesday the 1st of November 2006 at The Red Lion Hotel, Epworth for 7.30pm.
