Minutes of Last Meeting

Agreed as a true record.

Matters Arising

Kev advised that Misterton Minnows Swimming Club have only introduced lessons at the moment however, Eddie would advise these swimmers, as and when, that Sharks is available to those who wish to progress to Club Swimming.

With reference to the Team Manager system, it was agreed that we should order the new version now so that Angie can begin to take this on board on her own computer, as the existing disc will not transfer. Julie Hirst agreed to order this on our behalf. Kev agreed to input the results from the Fenland Meet and the Club Champs into the old Team Manager system, which he currently runs on his computer and then Angie will take over with the new version after that.

Kev was a little concerned that the Sharks Open Meet Committee had not had a meeting since last time and with a lot of work still to do on this, he felt the organisation of it should be moved forward. Jim advised that he has given out information to at least 30 Clubs and is still promoting it and felt that we still have plenty of time to organise everything. Sandra said she would put a notice on our board for volunteers for this Meet and at the same time she would make this Gala more widely known to our own swimmers. The date of the next Sub-Committee Meeting is to be the 5th of June 2007.

Simon advised that he had now completed the ‘risk assessment’ and he would print this out for us for the next meeting.

Sandra advised that the T-Bag T-shirts had now arrived and she has already placed a notice on our board in this respect.

Kev advised that he has order the Club Champs Trophies from Running Imp at a cost, so far of circa. £450, there will of course still be the cost of engraving the relevant trophies when the time comes, to add on to this.

Correspondence

Sandra has received various invoices, which she has already paid.

We have received an email from Jane Davies from Swimming Officials Administration regarding the teacher/coach licensing scheme. In order to get licensing, coaches need to get a form signed at each Gala/Meet they attend, which will give them points for licensing purposes, this is because each coach needs to prove that they have coached swimmers to a certain level, this form needs to be signed by the Referee of the Gala.

We have received letters from both Ian Davison and Shirley Hinchliffe regarding our proposal at the last meeting for them to become our Honorary Club Presidents. Both have accepted the positions. Thank you Shirley and Ian.

Coach’s Report

This years Bridon Shield took place at Adwick Pool on Sunday the 29th of April, with Sharks entering teams for all age groups except the boys open team. We won 3 first place positions (the 13yr old girls in the medley relay – Anna Laird, Amy Watson, Emily Fordham and Alice Lambert, the 13yr old boys in the freestyle relay – Charlie Cocks, Richard Eke, Harvey Thornton and Daniel Leggott and the 10yr old girls in the freestyle relay – Lily Webb, Lucy Windle, Hayley Lewis and Phillipa Smith). In addition Sharks won eight second place positions and the final results were as follows: Armthorpe 163 points, Adwick 124, Askern Spa 107, Sharks 106, Edlington 42, Thorne Tigers 32 and Rossington 18 points. Thank you all Sharks swimmers who took part, it was a fantastic effort.

On the 12th of May, Sharks took part in the second round of the Lincs Senior League, where we finished fourth, the final results as follows: Lincoln Vulcans A 257 points, South Lincs 194, Louth 176, Sharks 137, Trenton Dolphins 121 and Grimsby Santamarina 112 points.

The same day saw the Masters Team at Scarborough again, with the traditional cake and coffee to start before warm-up. This time we saw new Masters swimmers putting in an appearance in the form of Nick Buxton and Jackie Buxton, who were amongst our usual veteran Scarborough Masters swimmers, with everyone giving their best performances it was a good Gala. The teams did very well with wins in 2 relay events, 2 second placings and 2 third positions.

Sharks took part in the second round of the Lincs Junior League on the 19th of May at Gainsborough. The swimmers put in some great performances especially as we were a few swimmers short and therefore Kev had to swim some of the swimmers up to cover the older age group teams. We finished in third place, which was a fantastic result. The results were as follows: Lincoln Vulcans A 273 points, South Lincs 206, Sharks 186, Grantham 149, Trenton Dolphins 146 and Lincoln Pentaqua B 77 points.

Forthcoming Galas

The Fenland Open Meet is to be held on the weekend of the 26th and 27th of May 2007.

Club Champs to be held at Gainsborough on the 2nd and 9th of June 2007, we have 85 plus swimmers entered for this.

The Retford B Grade Gala is to be held at Ponds Forge on the 17th of June, we have 15 individual entrants and Kev has chosen 6 relay teams.

The 30th of June sees the last round of the Lincs Senior League at Deepings. The Committee agreed that we should hire a bus to get us to this Gala.

Agenda Items Discussed

Club Champs

Kev advised that he had ordered the new trophies and Margaret advised that she is collecting in the old trophies for re-engraving and presentation.

The trophies/medals are to be presented on poolside with the first place main trophies to be presented at the social evening along with the sprint ladder trophies.

Jim advised that he is considering placing the speakers for the PA system permanently on one of the walls at Gainsborough Pool and he would speak to someone about this when next at Gainsborough.

This will be our practice run on the ‘cardless meet’ using Meet Manager therefore we need someone greeting entrants at the door and ticking their names off and confirming which races they will be entering in order that the programme can be adjusted accordingly. Sandra confirmed she would do a reminder notice to be put up at Epworth Pool re swimmers confirming their swims as they arrive at Club Champs.

Any Other Business

We now have the Swim 21 status and the certificate has been received to confirm this. It was agreed that this should be framed and placed permanently on the wall at Epworth Pool, Sandra to organise this. We should also change our letterheads etc. and the website to incorporate our Swim 21 status. This accreditation will last for four years however we will need to produce at annual action plan which needs to be put in place every year. The Committee would like to thank the family Grays for putting all this together for the Club; your efforts are greatly appreciated.

Simon proposed that we should organise a fund raising event this year to top up our funds. He suggested a combined distance relay swim at the Epworth Pool, the distance equivalent to the Channel swim and suggested that we could have say 20 swimmers raising £50 each via sponsorship and this would give the Club £1,000. Simon to gather further information for us but it was thought this is a good idea in principal.

Jan suggested that we could also do a bag packing session at the Supermarket/s in Scunthorpe as another fund raising venture. Jan to write to the Supermarkets to gain more details for us to consider.

Jim advised that a parent has approached him and asked if we would like to run a stall at the Owston Ferry Summer Fete. The cost would be £5 per stall and this £5 donation would go to the Ambulance Service however, any money that we made from the stall we could keep and put towards our own Club funds.  Date to be advised and Jim to confirm with Mrs. Benson that we would like to participate and run a tombola stall. Donations for the tombola stall would be greatly appreciated.

The Social evening DJ has not been booked yet due to a mix up and therefore Sandra will ask Lynn to book this for us, as soon as possible.

It was suggested that the Committee Minutes should be placed in a folder on our notice board as at present they are looking a little here and there! Bev to organise.

The Committee decided that we should perhaps write to Stuart Starbuck to ask if he still wishes to remain a member of the Committee, as he hasn’t been to any of the meetings for a while. Bev to write.

Date of Next Meeting

Tuesday the 19th of June 2007 at the Red Lion Hotel, Epworth to start at 7.15pm.
