5 Swimmers - 14 Medals!
Sharks Faithful shine at Gala 2 of John harriman's 2006 Just 5 Sharks swimmers turned up for the 2nd John Harriman's Gala at Adwick on Sunday, 12th March. But those 5 swimmers pulled out all the stops and gained no less than 14 medals between them. The medal haul is all the more amazing since unbeknown to the club the cut off times had been dropped and the Championships were run without speeding tickets. Armthorpe turned up with an army of swimmers, several of which would have been excluded under the original cut off times. Nevertheless, our swimmers gave their all and were rewarded with a huge medal haul. We won't be making the same mistake next year! First off was Holly Lewis in 10yrs 25m Butterfly - not her usual stroke. She Improved her personal best by more than 2 seconds to get on the rostrum for a Bronze Medal. She would later get a Silver in both Backstroke and Breaststroke. Bridie Smith continued to show her prowess at the Butterfly, convincingly winning Gold. Lewis Starbuck also won Gold in Butterfly by a huge 7 second margin. Lewis also gained Bronze in 50m Backstroke and 50m Breaststroke. Daniel Richardson gave us a glimpse of a rising star, taking Gold in 50m Free, Silver in 50m Butterfly, 50m Breaststroke and 50m Backstroke. Jody Rutherford swam personal bests in all four strokes and got 5th on both 50m Backstroke and 50m Freestyle. Full results: Girls 10 Years 25m Butterfly BRONZE - Holly Lewis 18.66 Girls 11 years 50m Backstroke GOLD - Bridie Smith 42.27 Boys 11 years 50m Backstroke SILVER - Daniel Richardson 45.39 Girls 10 years 50m Backstroke SILVER - Holly Lewis 20.27 Girls 11 years 50m Breaststroke 5th - Bridie Smith 49.37 Boys 11 years 50m Breaststroke SILVER - Daniel Richardson 49.22 Girls 10 years 25m Breaststroke SILVER - Holly Lewis 22.33 Girls 11 years 50m Freestyle 4th - Bridie Smith 37.57 Boys 11 years 50m Freestyle GOLD - Daniel Richardson 37.59 Girls 11 years 50m Butterfly 4th - Bridie Smith 44.66 Boys 11 years 50m Butterfly GOLD - Lewis Starbuck 41.98 Note: The rule change removing cut-off times will have robbed us of more medals. Several Sharks swimmers were not entered in their strongest strokes and results on the day suggest more Gold's and Silvers would have been taken home. All Sharks swimmers should note the change for Next Year. The only restriction on entry is that you may not enter if you are a medal winner at the Mets. So, next year, let's fill the winners rostrum with Sharks... |
