Sharks clinch an important 4th place at Deepings. It was always going to be a difficult one with several regular swimmers missing and a tough draw against some really strong opposition. Nevertheless, everyone swam their heart out and with the help of some very impressive swimming from our more experienced boys and girls we climbed from fifth to fourth in the last quarter. We can't report in this event without a special mention for our coach driver. A fine fellow of a man - not. This man was straight from Dickens, frightening kids and parents alike. When asked if we could stop for our customary fish and chips on the way back Mr Jobsworth refused, saying we needed to book in advance! Why this person gets up in the morning is beyond me. Our open girls team comprising Steph Webb (yes, Mum must have promised the earth, but it worked), Hannah Blackham, Rebecca Milnes and Alison Pennell faired very well recording three first places, a second and two thirds.
Sam Rawson swam a masterful 50m breaststroke to win in a time of 1:21.27. Holly Lewis returned to form in the 50m backstroke to win by a touch after turning in third place. Our 12 year old wunderkind, Emily Fordham, swam up in the 14/U team. She continues to give us a demonstration of good butterflying with a close race to come second with a superb time of 1:18.91. Alex Cook kept her head to get 5 points for a second place in the 10/U 50m breaststroke. Our 12/U boys, Charlie Cocks, Richard Eke, Harvey Thornton and Daniel Leggott pulled out all the stops to haul in second in the 4x50m freestyle relay. The 10/U girls, Alex Cook, Lily Webb, Holly Lewis and Lucy Windle put up a good fight in the 4x25m freestyle relay with Holly taking over the last leg in 4th and screaming through to lose by nothing in a new club record of 15.34. Lucy Windle was swimming in her first senior league event coming in to replace the missing Cari Willams. Unfazed by by the promotion we swam a superb personal best to help the team to the 5 points. The 4th place at this event means we will probably end the season in the B final of the Lincs Senior League same as last year. We won that event. Let's hope we can do so again.
