Twin Golds in 100m IM for Alex Cook and Holly Lewis

Our girls swam in lane 3 and 5 of the same heat but in different age groups to clinch Gold in both the 9 and 10 year old category. The friendly rivalry between Alex and Holly is always well tested when they swim together and this was no exception. On this occasion both were rewarded for their efforts with holly taking the Gold in the 10 year old in a time of 1:30.89 and Alex grabbing Gold in the 9 year old with 1:37.27.

Earlier on the girls competed in the 50m butterfly and both girls produced personal bests, giving Alex a well deserved Silver medal in a time of 45.60 and Holly a place just outside the medals in a time of 45.07.

In the afternoon if was the turn of the boys with Charlie Cocks and Daniel Leggott competing for Sharks in a number of events.

Charlie, who has been coming on strongly with some extra coaching from Eddie raced to a Silver gong on the 12 years 50m backstroke in a time of 41.46. He was later rewarded with a Bronze medal in the 50m freestyle with an excellent 35.24. Completing his day he got medals for 5th place in 50m butterfly and 6th place in 25m individual medley. 4 events 4 medals. Well worth getting up for - and what else can you do on a wet Sunday.

Daniel Leggott set off the speeding camera in the 50m freestyle for 11 year olds and was too fast for a medal. He compensated for this with two medals for 4th place in 50m backstroke and 5th place in 50m butterfly, rounding off the day with 13th in 50m breaststroke and 12th in 25m medley.

It's worth noting that for a change this was a very well run event at Adwick. The adavance publication of the warm up times meant we didn't have to turn up at the crack of dawn and join a long queue. However, with several hundred kids taking part, it was inevitable that some parents wouldn't make it in to see little Johnny or Jenny because of the limited spectator space There have been more than a few complaints about this but what are the organisors supposed to do about it? Build a new pool?  I guess a capacity event should be regarded as a success. The races themselves came smooth and fast with no inexplicable delays and you could actually hear the announcer quite clearly. Unusually, there were no podium or medal ceremonies. Nobody seemed bothered by this and it did make the races much quicker. Well done Dartes. Let's hope others using Adwick learn by thiuer example.
